County Clerk Services during COVID-19
Santa Cruz County continues to closely monitor the spread of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, and has implemented actions to help minimize the potential impact of the virus on our employees, customers and operations. Click on the Coronavirus Information button above for details.
The County Clerk’s office will provide in-person services by appointment ONLY. Please click the link below to make an appointment or call 831-454-2060. You will be expected to appear in person at 701 Ocean Street, Room 310 at your booked appointment time. Please have all your paperwork and payment ready. Our office does not accept credit cards. The services include:
- Marriage Licenses - please complete the application posted online: English / Espanol.
- Marriage Ceremonies - book online.
- Passports - Applications are online at www.travel.state.gov.
- Fictitious business names. Applications are online.
- Notary Oath filings
- Process Server and Legal Document Assistant registration
- Other Services

Fictitious Business Name filings may be filed by mail. Click here for the application and process. You may also make an appointment for a FBN if you need it quickly.
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone exhibiting signs of illness. We encourage customers to wear a mask, bring their own pens and wash their hands before and after visiting our office. Most of our staff are working remotely, but those who are here are following public health guidelines of wearing a mask, washing our hands often, cleaning work surfaces frequently, covering our coughs and sneezes, maintaining social distances, and staying home if we are sick.
